QUESTIONS have been raised about whether mysterious chalk markings left on pavements and on the walls of homes in Crawley could have been left there by burglars using them as a secret code.
Burglars have been known in the past to use such a method to indicate to each other whether a home is worth targetting.
Symbols can mean anything from "nothing of value" to "a vulnerable person lives here".
