A FAMILY have been left heartbroken after they discovered their pet dog who was "best buddies" with an autistic boy had been stolen as a puppy and had to be returned to its original owner.
Danielle Phillips, a mum of four, bought a Chihuahua pug cross from a Facebook site for her birthday two years ago and the dog quickly settled in with her young family.
They called the dog Mutley and it became particularly close to her six-year-old son Ronnie, who has Asperger's syndrome.
