UPDATE: Firework thrown in garden sets fire to house
A FIREWORK which was thrown into a Bewbush garden has set fire to a house, causing severe damage.
Firefighters rushed to Stevenage Road at about 1.50am this morning after the firework set fire to a fence, shed and garden furniture before spreading to the house.
It caused "substantial damage" according to West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service with about 30 per cent of the kitchen and 50 per cent of the rest of the house damaged by heat and smoke.

Men arrested on suspicion of tool thefts across Mid Sussex
POLICE are asking anyone to come forward who has had power tools stolen from them from before the beginning of June.
Three men, a 37-year-old, a 58-year-old and a 36-year-old, have been arrested for handling stolen goods since officers recovered high value power tools which they believed were stolen when they stopped a car in Cuckfield on June 2.

UPDATE: Two anti-fracking protesters arrested at Balcombe...
TWO protesters were this morning arrested as drilling finally commenced at a potential fracking site in Balcombe.
The 19-year-old woman and adult male were both arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and takes the total number of activists arrested to 27 since the anti-fracking demonstration started last Thursday.

A VILLAGE store was cordoned off by police following an overnight burglary.
Firefighters were alerted to an alarm sounding at Tesco Express in Forest Row, which on arrival they discovered was triggered by a break-in.

Police warn tradesmen after thieves strip vans' exhaust systems
TRADESMEN are being urged to keep an eye out for thieves targeting their vehicles for parts after two vans' exhaust systems were stolen.
Thieves stripped the entire exhaust systems, including the catalytic converters, from two Mercedes Sprinter vans parked in East Grinstead within hours of each other.
It is believed that the offenders may have tracked down the vehicles and stolen the parts to order.

Suspected van thief hides up a tree
A SUSPECTED thief who ran away from police used his tree-climbing skills in an attempt to escape arrest.
Surrey Police yesterday called upon the force's helicopter to branch out in their search of South Godstone fields for two men thought to have stolen a van.
While one suspect was able to get away, the second was found and detained at approximately 3.30pm after police noticed he was hiding up a tree.

Police search West Green property for drugs
POLICE have searched a property in West Green for drugs.
Eight officers and a CCTV van were spotted on Ifield Road on Tuesday (Aug 6).
They carried out a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant at the property and found a small quantity of cannabis.
A 24-year-old man who was at the address was spoken and will be summonsed to court.

Police are stepping up patrols across Crawley after a series of break-ins to cars.
The have received several calls about a number of breaks-ins around town.

A 29-year-old man is currently in custody following a report of a serious sexual assault on a woman in Reigate's Tunnel Road.
